Sometimes the smallest changes make a room feel more finished. I have a little alcove near my guest bathroom that needed a soft light, but I didn’t want an ordinary plastic night-light. When I found one that looked like a miniature table lamp, I knew it would suit my home.
The night-light has a black shade with a gold accent, so it looks like something I might have chosen as a full-size lamp. It is available in several finishes and shade styles, making it easy to find one that works with different decor.
Mine has a dusk-to-dawn sensor, so I never have to remember to turn it on or off. It even comes on during the day when the weather is especially cloudy. The amount of light is just right for the alcove—enough to softly illuminate the area without being too bright. There is also a slider on the side that allows me to adjust the brightness.
An unexpected bonus is the way the light falls on the picture hanging above it. The little lamp doesn’t light the entire picture, but it gives the wall and artwork a subtle glow that makes the alcove feel warmer and more inviting.
I plugged mine into the bottom outlet because I prefer the way it looks there. However, it can be placed in the top outlet if you want to keep the lower one available.
I purchased my first one in January and have never had a problem with it. After using it for almost eight months, I decided to order two more.
One will go in my kitchen. I currently have a small lamp there with a similar shape and an aqua shade, but I dislike seeing its cord on the counter. This little plug-in lamp solves that problem. I often get up during the night for a drink of water, so having a gentle light in the kitchen is helpful without needing to turn on the bright overhead lights.
I haven’t quite decided where the third one will go. It may end up in the master bathroom or in the family room, where I could place it behind a plant on the bookcase. It won’t replace a full-size lamp, but it will add a soft glow—and there won’t be a cord in sight.
Finding something that is attractive, practical, and reliable doesn’t happen every day. This little night-light checks all three boxes, which is why one has now become three.
