Remembering Scottie

Watercolor-style portrait of Scottie, a black and white tuxedo Maine Coon with green eyes and one white paw tucked in front, surrounded by soft purple, blue and tan washes.

I wanted to remember Scottie in different ways, so I took one of my favorite photos of him and turned it into a watercolor. I don’t remember which tools I used, since it was a long time ago, but I’m glad I did it.

Scottie was my black and white tuxedo Maine Coon. Maine Coons are known as gentle giants, and he certainly was one. He was also very talkative and a tapper, and he needed constant communication and touch. If I wasn’t paying attention, he’d tap me until I did. He followed me from room to room, kept me company while I got ready in the morning, and had a lot of favorite chairs.

I’d know him anywhere in this portrait, from his green eyes looking straight at me to that white paw tucked in front, which I like to imagine is about to tap me. If you’ve ever loved a cat, you know how much room they take up in a home and in your heart. I’m happy to have him here on the blog, and you’ll hear more about him as I go along.

If you’d like to see him in action, here is how he helped me get ready in the morning: https://acozycreativelife.com/2026/10/11/scottie-helps-me-get-ready/
