Muffy Kept Her Paws Clean

Muffy liked to come outside with me while I worked in the garden. She didn’t need a leash. She was quite content to stay on the sidewalk, where she could keep me company without putting her paws in the grass or dirt.

That was her rule. I could get my hands dirty, but she would be watching from the pavement.

This old photograph shows her sitting beside the flowers, looking up at me. I love her little black nose and the way her white chest stands out against her dark fur. Seeing it turned into an illustration brings back those afternoons together.

When I finished gardening and went inside, Muffy followed me. Our time outdoors was over, and her paws were still clean. She was a good kitty.
