I didn’t decide to grow pumpkins. The pumpkins decided themselves.

In the fall, I chose all different kinds to place around my garden. Some were grouped together and others were scattered here and there. The stone cat statue held a small one.

I enjoyed them for a long time, well beyond any frost. Sometimes I even spray-painted them metallic colors for the winter.

So the truth is, I didn’t throw them away until spring.

By then, they were mushy and had sunk into the ground. I picked up what was left and tossed it in the trash, but some of the seeds remained.

And that’s how I grew pumpkins.
